I graduated from Madera High School and attended Madera Center before transferring to California State University of Fresno. As an undergraduate, I was an active member in different honor societies I had joined and held various officerships while attending school. I worked as a tutor at the Learning Center and later on, as a G.A., then as a T.A. for different professors in the History Department. For four summers, I participated in the Anthropology Department’s Archaeological Field School at the Grandad Site. In later summers, I worked at Fresno State’s Summer Bridge Program and for Upward Bound. I was also selected to be a Ronald E. McNair Scholar. My project proposal on the Mycenean Greeks was chosen for a McNair research grant. While at CSU Fresno, I earned a B.A. in History, and a B.A. in Anthropology as well as a minor in Humanities. I continued my education there and obtained my M.A. in History. Afterward, I applied to work at MUSD as a substitute teacher for a year. After starting at Madera Adult School teaching ESL, I transferred to the High School Diploma Department and earned my teaching credential. Since 2016, I have continued to help students reach their goals and graduate with their High School Diplomas.
