My life has been shaped by growing up in the Philippines and immigrating to this country when I was 28 years old. I had parents that encouraged me to have dreams and not be constrained by the culture and expectations for women. This has always inspired me to teach and nurture minds.
I am very fortunate to be in the teaching profession for the last 30 years in Madera, most of it at Madera Adult School. I was blessed to have colleagues that impacted my life and cared about my future in this new country. I graduated from the University of the Philippines with a BA in Political Science and got my Teaching Credential while working as an aide for Furman High School.
It is heartwarming to realize that my student and I have the same aspirations, dreams, and wishes for ourselves and our children…to create a new life, get a better education, and realize the “American Dream”. I continue to learn daily from them.
